Week 2 of the Cycling Pursuits Time Trial League on Thursday 28 April saw an increase in club members competing with appearances by Ruaidhri and Brian Devitt, both looking to lay down a solid marker to chase over the coming weeks. Tommy Byrnes, John McCormack and Dermot Radford were out again this week aiming to improve on their times posted in Week 1 of the event. Last year’s winner and Tipperary Wheelers member Liam Butler, representing Limerick Tri Club in this event, was also out to try surpass his last performance. With excellent conditions, identical to last week, it was down to the riders themselves to perform on the night.

The performances by all club members were superb with the following times being recorded:

John McCormack                                                               30 min 58 sec                       Avg Speed: 35.45 kph

Tommy Byrnes                                                                    27 min 54 sec                       Avg Speed: 39.36 kph

Liam Butler (representing Limerick Tri Club)               27 min 37 sec                       Avg Speed: 39.75 kph

Brian Devitt                                                                          27 min 20 sec                       Avg Speed: 40.17 kph

Dermot Radford                                                                  26 min 20 sec                       Avg Speed: 41.70 kph

After two weeks of the seven week league (best six performances are counted) that leaves Dermot in first position in the Elite category, Liam in a share of fourth, Ruaidhri sharing eight and Brian in tenth position. Tommy is also leading the Vet category with John in sixth position.

The time trial league will continue next Thursday, 05 May, where there will be a two-man time trial with riders heading out onto the 18.3km course in pairs. Full details of the league can be found on the Cycling Pursuits website at www.cyclingpursuits.ie
